WEEK 4: Carl Barks Donald Duck Comics
This week's theme has been my favorite thus far. Studying the legendary Carl Bark's comics was such a delight! While comics are foreign to me, the Donald Duck comic series is something that holds nostalgia and brings me back to my childhood as a Donald Duck lover. While the storylines are playful and always including the angry pressure cooker, Donald, there is a moral to each story and values that make these comics appropriate for young children to enjoy.
Barks has good solid skills with his drawing and is never trying to show off. Everything in the comic through the drawings and the language is evoked in the storytelling. While reading his comics, I wasn't distracted and everything is constructed to move the reader through the story. In addition to reading his comics, I also discovered his gorgeous paintings which show his extreme talent and incredible storytelling abilities. While I am not a illustrator or comic enthusiast, I have a great appreciation for Bark's iconic work.
