WEEK 5: Will Eisner and Stan Lee Interview Response
The 1990 interview with Stan Lee and Will Eisner was a great conversation and look into the making and evolution of comics. Will Eisner is a comic legend who effortlessly has mastered the craft of the graphic novel. In this interview, Stan refers to comics are the new literacy and what a great impact Eisner has had on comics. While a majority of comics bring the appeal to children, Eisner made it clear that graphic novels are for everyone.
I thought it was interesting how both Stan and Will addressed the controversial issues of how some people think the graphic novel is destroying reading and destroying children's imaginations. The idea of just giving them the pictures and not letting them imagine their own world was frowned upon by adults. Eisner mentioned that felt like a drug dealer going to schools with comics.

He was very entupeural and paved his own way in the comic world. When it comes to his technique, Eisner goes on to discuss that comics are the only medium where you have complete control. He mentions that nothing happens by accident, everything is for a reason. He doesn't draw the make a beautiful drawing, he draws to bring you into the story. His work is all about the emotional work of storytelling. He wants us to focus on emotion which can be seen through not just the mouth but through the whole body, particularly the eyes.
